OPC appoints new Information PS, Director
Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) has appointed former Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) director of news Chimwemwe Banda as the new principal secretary for Information replacing Lucky Sikwese.
Director of Information Chikumbutso Mtumodzi who came into the position less than a year ago has also been removed and replaced by Gerald Viola who until recently was working for Galaxy Radio, which is run by Bineth Trust of the late president Bingu wa Mutharika.
Minister of Information Kondwani Nankhumwa confirmed the appointments in an interview yesterday.
“The two just received letters today and the appointments are effective June 26, 2014. However, OPC is making arrangements on the next postings of the previous occupants of the offices,” Nankhumwa
said.
The new PS, Banda, has come to Information at a time when the ministry has been merged with the ministry of tourism, wildlife and culture.
Until recently, Banda had been posted to the Health Education Unit of the Ministry of Health as a deputy director.
Viola, on the other hand, had previously worked for MBC for many years before his position was declared redundant following the merger with Television Malawi.
